Nuremberg and Altdorf, 1720. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Johann Bartholomäus Rivinius Manuductio ad Chemiam Pharmaceuticum (1720) is a pharmaceutical chemistry manual that serves as both a guide to chemical processes and a pharmacological reference. The book reflects early 18th-century iatrochemical traditions, where chemistry was increasingly applied to medicine and pharmacy. BOOK DETAILS AND CONDITION: 8vo pp 7[10] 6-74 (should be 78 since, as in Ferguson, numbering pp 61-64 used twice consecutively although on different pages). Mid-nineteenth century black mottled boards with frontispiece glued to inner front board. See Ferguson II p 280 for collation of this edition. The Manuductio is complete in itself but the book is incomplete: it has only the first part (a complete work in itself) but lacks the independent works Medulla Chymia(1718) pp [10] 70, six engraved plates and Chymia Curiosa pp 71-134 (87-94 skipped) as called for in the Ferguson copy and often included together with the Manuductio. The catchwords on the final page (p 74) refer to one leaf (two pages) of the publisher s (Tauber) advertisement of other books. The first edition was published in 1690. It consists of twelve chapters on chemical processes and products. The present (1720) copy has the twelve chapters complete. VG RARITY: OCLC reports 24 extant copies in world libraries. Neville II p 381- this work is very rare. Very Good / No Jacket. Item #EBS100402
