Handsome facsimile reproduction of Pierre Fauchard's landmark 1746 second edition — the founding text of modern dentistry, in which Fauchard, the "Father of Modern Dentistry," presents the first comprehensive, systematic treatise on dental anatomy, oral hygiene, restorative techniques, prosthetics, orthodontic correction, and periodontal disease.
This facsimile was produced in 1961 for the Paris publisher Julien Prélat by Les Procédés Dorel, printed on chiffon vergé de laine (laid rag) paper, and hand-bound by the Paris bindery L. Desmoulière — a quality vintage reproduction rather than a mass-market reprint. Two volumes, complete with all 42 engraved plates.
Condition & Binding: Uniformly bound in mottled/tree-calf style leather with gilt-ruled spine compartments, gilt floral and pinwheel tooling, and gilt-lettered spine labels ("CHIRUR DENTIS / TOM I" and "TOM II"). Marbled endpapers and pastedowns in red, blue, and gold; sprinkled edges. Bindings tight, square, and attractive. Overall- very good to near fine. Item #920
